Virus Terms

Has your antivirus told you that you have a certain type of virus on your computer, but you didn’t know what it means?

Here is a list of most virus terms, and types of viruses.
Malware:
Any type of malicious coding, scripting, programs etc.  Designed to cause harm to you in one way or another.(Virus)

Trojan:
A trojan is a program that appears to be legitimate, but actually has a virus attached to it.

Adware:

Adware is a type of virus designed to display ads to you, usually so a third-party can make money. If you are getting a lot of pop ups, or being redirected to sites that are trying to advertise to you, you probably have adware on your computer.

Drive-By Downloads:
Every internet browser has flaws. That’s why they’re being constantly updated. What a drive-by download does, is it takes advantage of those flaws or errors in the web browser, and uses that flaw to download malicious (virus) programs to your computer and runs them.

Keyloggers:
Keyloggers are malicious programs which are run on your computer, which send all your keystrokes, (basically everything you type) to a server, or email, usually to the person that gave you the keylogger. This is commonly used to steal people’s passwords.

RAT:
A RAT, (or, Remote Administration Tool) is a virus which gives the person that gave it to you total control over your pc. These are very hard to get rid of, because they can reinstall themselves after you remove them. However, if you believe you have a RAT on your computer post here and we can help you. Some ways to tell you have a RAT on your computer is if you are being sent to random sites, your webcam light comes on, you see your mouse or keyboard taken control of, your computer shuts down randomly, or if you get constant popups.

Scareware: Viruses that try to scare you into giving them your credit card number. Fake antivirus programs, which will tell you that you have a lot of viruses (you really don’t, the only actual virus is the program itself) in attempt to scare you into “buying” their fake antivirus software, which will usually end up with your credit card being stolen. Never fall for these scams.

Spyware: A type of virus that spies on your computer, and sends personal/confidential information to a third-party.

Worms: A worm is a type of virus that is designed to send itself out to other computers, most commonly through email.

Trackware: A type of virus that tracks you, such as what websites you go to, how long you spend online on certain sites, etc.

Phishing: Phishing is where you are tricked into entering your password, where it is sent to the phisher to be stolen. When you enter in a password, always make sure the link at the top of the page is the legitimate one, to avoid being phished.

Now that you know of all of these, how about protecting yourself from them with Norton 360?
